Wavu Africa is a grassroots sports and digital community platform that showcases and supports local football and other emerging sports across Nairobi’s informal settlements and wider African communities. It combines on-the-ground tournaments with a growing online presence to connect youth, teams, coaches, and partners around value-based sports.
Who we are
Wavu Africa is a sports-focused initiative that works closely with community clubs, academies, and organizations in areas such as Kibera, Mathare, Mukuru kwa Njenga, Kangemi, and Viwandani.
The platform highlights both top-flight and community teams, giving underserved youth visibility, structured competition, and pathways to higher levels of play.
What we do
Wavu Africa documents leagues and tournaments, shares fixtures and results, and tells the stories of players, coaches, and community leaders driving change through sport.
Through the Sports HUB concept, Wavu Africa promotes multiple disciplines beyond football, including basketball and emerging sports like pickleball, reflecting the diverse interests of young people in urban settlements.

How we create impact
By working alongside partners like CFK Africa’s Sports for Peace and Development programs, Wavu Africa helps organize, host, and amplify tournaments that tackle issues like school dropout, crime, drug use, and gender-based violence.
The platform connects offline events with digital tools such as the Wavu Sports Network, making it easier for athletes, coaches, and fans to discover tournaments, follow their favorite teams, and build supportive sports communities.

Wavu Africa envisions a continent where talent from informal and underserved communities is recognized, nurtured, and connected to opportunity through accessible, community-driven sports ecosystems.
